Why edit your world

Hi, I’m Breyonna, a professional developmental editor.

Unlike copy editors who address grammar and punctuation (among other things) or line editors who enhance the language of your novel sentence-by-sentence, I assess your book on a big picture scale.

This involves looking at your theme and audience and determining the effectiveness of your usage of literary elements, such as plot and character development.

My edits often include an emphasis on POV, timeline, plot inconsistencies, setting, and worldbuilding, as well. These are categories that tend to be more problematic for sci-fi and fantasy writers.

My aim is always to help you put your best work forward, improve your writing skills, and gain deeper understanding of our wonderful craft.

I know what its like to stare at a manuscript for hours on end and spend years working on a draft only to realize you must rewrite it. I don’t promise that you’ll sell big if you stick with me. Or that you’re novel will magically come together a few weeks after my assessment. However, I know that working with me will help improve your story. Often by a lot.

Fantasy and Sci-fi are very demanding genres. You pour your imagination and dreams into these stories. But if you can succeed in writing so much already and putting all that work in, you can succeed at Editing Your Worlds.

  1. Having read this I believed it was really informative. I appreciate you finding the time and energy to put this article together. I once again find myself spending way too much time both reading and leaving comments. But so what, it was still worthwhile! Shayna Randy Cogswell
